Which Products Are Eligible For A Tax Credits?
Tax credits are abvailable at 10% of the cost, up to $500 total or a specific amount from $50-$300, expires December 31, 2011  (ONLY for existing homes & your principal residence, NOT new construction) for:

-windows, doors, and skylights (10% of the cost, up to $500, but windows are capped at $200)

-insulation (one of the most cost-effective home improvements that you can do)

-roofs: metal and asphalt (can lower roof surface temperature, decreasing the amount of heat transferred into your home) 

-HVAC: central air conditioners, air source heat pumps, furnaces and boilers

-water heaters: gas, oil & propane water heaters, electric heat pump water heaters

-biomass stoves

Tax credits are available at 30% of the cost, with no upper limit, through 2016 (for existing homes and new construction-it does not have to be your "principal residence," vacation homes are eligible) for:

-geothermal heat pumps

-solar panels

-small wind energy systems                                                                                                                

-solar water heaters

Tax credits are available at 30% of the cost, up to $500 per .5kW of power capacity, through 2016 (for your existing "principal residence" or new construction that will be your principal residence, DOES NOT include vacation homes) for:

-fuel cells

Renters are not eligible for any of the tax credits.
